Our Trip to New York!
On the 3/9/07 we went to New York! It was 5.07am and we were up and getting in the car ( though some of us were not in the best of moods for been woken up at 4.45am!) And we started on our 2 hour drive to New Haven from Mansfield! Once at New Haven we RAN to New Haven train station, where our train bound for New York city was, but oh dear we had missed it by about 4 minutes! Just as well for us there was a train we could go on that was in another hour!
When we finely got safely on the train, it was turning into a beautiful day! Just right for site seeing! Though one thing was that we had all brought coats because we thought it would be cold, well it was very hot! Finely after about 2 hour trip on the train we saw the sky towers of New York, but not for very long for we went under the ground!
The whole of New York ground is train ways! We had arrived at the New York Grand Centre station! We were meet by Dads Cousin he was going to show us round New York! As we walked out of the train station, the road was coved in roadside stalls, lots and lots of them! Selling all kinds of things! Then we went to DOWN TOWN NEW YORK!
It was so hard to even walk down the street as the was thousands of people! And that was a public holiday, so it was a very quiet day!
And Oh there was so many Homeless people there, the whole time we were there we counted 31 homeless people, all that looked over 50 years of age! Some just had cardboard with words saying “I am homeless and Hungary. Please help me!” Others were just holding cups out saying please help me”! And even one lady was singing in opera “Please could some one give me money, anyone! I am so Hungary and have no home!” We gave her some money and her whole face lit up!
In one Building we went passed had glass walls and you could see them making a movie ! Down the street we saw them doing “ TODAYS NEWS” We saw a New Zealand flag at a place where all the flags of the world are! We went to TIMES SQUARE that was rather boring, just lots of big movie screens all over the sky towers.
Then we went to the centre park, it was huge and there was so much people at it, and going around the park all the time was horses and carriages, 100s of them! You could pay to go in them! We saw the place where Stuart Little was filmed! There was lots of weddings at the park even though it was a Monday! We saw the Hamilton monument. Then we went to a Art Museum and saw some very old mummies! And things from their tombs! And the wishing pond that was packed with money! Some very old and rare paintings there too, the originals! Very exciting for Ruth and Mum! We were going to go in the natural history museum but the line of people was unbelievable, so we decided to go and see the STATUE OF LIBERTY instead!
We got on another under ground train and headed for it! We came to the Ground 0 because the train ran right under the twin towers ( and the some of the rail way caved in on 11/9 .) It was a very sad place! I found it sad to think nearly to the day, 6 years ago thousands of people were killed right in the place we were standing! They are building the twin towers again, higher this time! Then we moved on from there and saw a much happier site THE STATUE OF LIBERTY!!!!!!!!! We had been wanting to see this site for years and the it was! You can not go over to the island because they don’t want it to be a target for bombs. Then we went back on the under ground train, saying good bye to Dads cousin who was so kind and really helpful in showing us around New York! Wow the under ground trains are so fast! We got home at a 9pm. It was a great day, but it has showed me I will never never live in New York!!!!!!!!
